Leave a gift in my will
Your will is in itself a gift.
A thoughtful and well-planned will is an important and helpful document that ensures that your wishes are carried out. Making your intentions clear through your will is in itself a great gift to your family and friends. Your will may also be the key instrument for making the most generous charitable gifts that you may ever give. Legacy gifts say a great deal about you, your beliefs, and the organizations you care about. It is always a privilege and great source of encouragement for L’Arche Homefires to receive a legacy gift. Your commitment to L’Arche is precious, and we would be honoured to receive a gift through your will or estate plan.
How to leave a gift in your will to the L’Arche Canada Foundation
We recommend working with a lawyer to write or update your will. Your lawyer and your financial advisor can help you plan for a legacy gift that works well for you.
Three things your lawyer may ask for:
Legal name of the charitable organization: Wolfville L’Arche Homefires Society
Charitable registration number: 10821 9106 RR0001
Mailing address: 341 Main St. Wolfville, NS B4P 2N5
Sample wording for giving a specific dollar amount or a percentage of your estate:
“I give L’Arche Homefires, charitable number 10821 9106 RR0001, the sum of $______.”
“I bequeath _____% of the residue of my estate to the L’Arche Homefires, charitable number 10821 9106 RR0001.”
Giving through life insurance or your retirement plan
It may be possible for you to name L’Arche Homefires as a beneficiary (in full or with a designated percentage), of your life insurance or your retirement plan, RRSP or RRIF. You can discuss these options with your lawyer and financial advisor. Contact your retirement plan administrator or your life insurance company to add L’Arche Homefires as a beneficiary.
Other Giving Possibilities
There are other ways to give through your will or estate plan. We encourage you to discuss with your lawyer and financial advisor how to leave a legacy gift that responds best to your needs and circumstances.
L’Arche Legacy Leaders
L’Arche Legacy Leaders are people who have let us know that they have made a legacy gift to L’Arche Homefires. Legacy gifts support the growth of L’Arche in the Annapolis Valley and help to secure the long-term impact of L’Arche for people with intellectual disabilities. With written permission, we may list these legacy donors in our newsletter, online media or Annual Report. Their generosity inspires others to give. If you have made a gift to L’Arche Homefires through your will or estate, you are welcome to be recognized as a L’Arche Legacy Leader.
Optional Bequest Intention Form
The link below takes you to a Confidential Bequest Intention Form that you can print and mail to us, if you like. We can also easily mail the form to you to complete and return. While we always appreciate hearing about plans for a legacy gift — so we can thank you — the decision to let us know about your legacy gift is yours to make, and it is completely optional. Whether you choose to share your plans with us now, or we learn of your gift only after you’re gone, we want you to know how grateful we are for your belief in L’Arche and for your generous support. We promise you our enduring commitment to people with intellectual disabilities and to honouring the important contributions they make in building a compassionate society.
